What's New in Responsible Sourcing?

During MJSA Expo, Andrea Hill will moderate a panel of industry experts regarding the latest developments and news in responsible sourcing practices.

Responsible sourcing and transparent supply chains are more important than ever to consumers. The fashion, electronics, luxury goods, grocery, and automotive industries have each made some progress toward transparency following major failures (and related brand damage) related to the environment and human rights. Consumers are now turning increased attention to the jewelry industry with similar expectations. At the same time, documentaries on the environmental and social impacts of mining are reaching broad distribution and consumer awareness. There is no longer a grace period between now and the beginning of your responsible jewelry practices. It's time to start.

Andrea has been a supporter of and the MC for the Chicago Responsible Jewelry Conference (CRJC), serves as an advisor to the board of Ethical Metalsmiths, and she has written on responsible jewelry issues for Forbes. Together with Susan Wheeler (founder of the CRJC), she conceived of this panel of experts —all of whom bring different knowledge regarding the creation of responsible supply chains, and each of whom have been presenters at CRJC. This panel will bring their insights to the MJSA community in a discussion of the latest developments in sourcing diamonds, precious metals, and colored gemstones. If you were not able to attend CRJC, this short session will bring you up-to-date on the highlights from that event. If you are considering attending CRJC in 2019, this session will give you a taste of the types of information covered, and the brain power that convenes at that conference each year to share, collaborate, and develop new initiatives to work on together. Whether you want to develop your own business programs, or wish to participate as a member in one of the more global initiatives, your participation is welcomed and needed. So MJSA (a founding sponsor of CRJC)  brings this information to you, at Expo, to help you begin.

The panelists include:

Few others in the jewelry industry have as much on-the-ground, active practice in developing responsible jewelry supply chains as these five panelists. You will learn more in this 90-minute session than you can imagine, and will be able to ask questions, receive answers, and get inspired about your own responsible supply chain participation and development.
